In Thailand, 198.89 billion baht has been approved for National Health Security Fund to operate the Universal Coverage Scheme (UCS) in the 2022 fiscal year, excluding 140.55 billion baht earmarked separately for staff’s payroll.
The 2022 budget will be rearranged to respond COVID-19 pandemic and the country’s health situation. The budget will be allocated to improve public access to the rapid antigen test kit for COVID-19 and the standard test for the coronavirus infection and to support home and community isolation. In addition, the budget will be funded for compensation to those affected by the COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccine program.
In addition, benefits coverage on health and disease prevention have been expanded to cover all Thai citizens regardless of public health insurance entitlement. Prenatal care will be provided free of charge to all Thais. Approximately 2.8 billion baht has been earmarked for health promotion and prevention at the area levels, covering around 7,000 local administrative organizations nationwide.
Several new health benefits will be added to the UCS’ core benefits package such as oral cancer screening, minimally invasive surgery for treatments, blood sugar test kits, and portable blood sugar monitors for diabetes care. To read more, click.
