An additional RM 2 Billion allocation is needed for the National Covid-19 Immunization Programme (NCIP) due to increased costs to procure the Covid-19 vaccine and the costs to administer the programme.
Programme coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that taking into consideration the risk of supply disruption, such as export bans, raw materials, manufacturer’s capacity and regulatory approvals, the budget needs to accommodate 110% of the population. This includes the cost of clinical trials, additional booster shots, vaccine contracts still in the pipeline and rental and utility costs for over 600 public vaccination centres.
The Public Accounts Committee is satisfied with the NCIP’s requirements and should allocate the required amount soon.
