From February 12 to 14, 2024, the Economic Community of East African States organized a high-level national dialogue on health financing in Bujumbura. This dialogue mobilized stakeholders around the theme: “Increasing public resources for health financing in Burundi”.
Chaired by the Vice President of the Republic of Burundi SE Prosper BAZOMBANZA, this high-level dialogue brought together senior administrative authorities from key sectors, parliamentarians, civil society and development partners for three days.
Discussions focused on the central theme: “Increasing public resources for health financing in Burundi”. in a context of funding dominated by external resources, the need to prioritize healthcare in the public budget and to make more equitable and efficient use of available resources to cover the needs of the most vulnerable populations, the majority of whom live in rural areas.
At the end of this dialogue and in response to the first recommendation, a CSU steering committee was set up to complete the development process and validate the health financing strategy for the CSU in Burundi.
