Health Financing Policy 2017-2030: Resourcing the pathway to Universal Health Coverage

The Gambia’s National Health Financing Policy aims to enhance the efficiency, equity, and sustainability of the country’s health system by addressing key challenges in health funding. With over 46.7% of health financing dependent on international donors, the policy emphasizes the need for more sustainable and predictable funding sources. It outlines strategies for resource mobilization, pooling, and equitable distribution, alongside improved monitoring and evaluation. The policy also advocates for better coordination among development partners and the adoption of innovative purchasing mechanisms to ensure quality health care. Developed through a comprehensive and inclusive process, the policy is aligned with national and international goals, including the transition to universal health coverage and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
