The ‘Thai’ Cabinet has approved an additional fund of 6,387.29 million baht from the central fund of the 2021 national expenditure to acquire 35 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca, so that the people of Thailand will have access to the vaccine.
Out of the additional fund, 5,673.67 million baht will be spent on vaccine procurement, and the remaining 713.61 million baht for vaccine management and arrangements at the local level. This program will be carried out from June to December 2021.
It is expected that at least half of Thailand’s population will be vaccinated by the end of 2021.
The first lot of 117,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in Thailand on 24 February 2021. The second lot, with 26 million doses, will arrive between June and August.
When combined with the two million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from China’s pharmaceutical manufacturer Sinovac Biotech, Thailand will have acquired altogether 63 million doses, which will cover 60 per cent of the country’s population.
