Ethiopia’s Minister of Health calls for sustainable health financing to address demands in health systems

The Minister of Health in Ethiopia, Dr. Lia Tadesse has stressed the importance of sufficient and sustainable health financing through government resources, domestic funds, and improved alignment of donor contributions. This approach aims to maintain the progress made and address the gaps within the healthcare system, ultimately working towards universal health coverage and building health system resilience. The Minister of Health addressed the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, which took place from May 21 to May 30, 2023, emphasizing the interconnectedness of health and its significance, stating that when health is compromised, everything else is also at risk. She called for a greater demonstration of solidarity than ever before, urging the elevation of health as a global, regional, and national priority.
